A road trip along the French coast from Nice to Biarritz passing through Provence and Camargue.
We started our journey near Milan, first stop Nice, the capital of the French Riviera.
Nice is a multicultural city, always on the move. The old town has a retro charm, with elegant buildings in Belle Epoque style. It’s lovely to take a walk in the streets around the port, where there’s a romantic atmosphere and you can look at the sea.
Then we moved to Aix-en-Provence, the very heart of Provence. The sweet lifestyle and the incomparable light fascinated many artists. The beautiful countryside landscape of Aix inspired throughout his life the famous paintings of Paul Cézanne. Near Aix-en-Provence we visited Cassis and the beautiful Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Located at the gates of Camargue, Arles has retained many of its traditions and its ancient charm. It is the capital of photography, with important international meetings, exhibitions and conferences every year.
Starting from Arles there are several beautiful places to visit in a daytrip: Les Baux-de-Provence, Aigues-Mortes, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Then we moved to Montpellier a lively university city, capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, as well as the Hérault department. With an average of 300 sunny days a year, Montpellier offers a myriad of things to do and see.
Final stop Biarritz, in the Pays Basque, where we finally reached the Atlantic Ocean. A wild coast, dotted with rocks sculpted by the strength of the waves, sumptuous palaces and villas with eclectic architecture, from Art Nouveau to Neo-basque through Art Deco and Baroque, long beaches of fine sand, ideal to relax or engage in the activity you prefer.
Two must-see destinations outside Biarritz are Soorts-Hossegor and Capbreton in the Landes region, a very popular destination among surfers from all over the world.
On the way home we stopped in Grasse, the capital of perfume. In this place, among lavender, jasmine, mimosa, rose, orange blossom and violet, our journey ended.
